this game is an oldie, but a goodie..
and I have had the pleasure of having a friend, whom I hope I will have the pleasure of calling and oldie but a goodie in another 20 or so years... taught me this game a few months back and while I am addicted and play on-line all the time..
I escaped my humble home and went to Panera for dinner and a few games and some much needed down time. it was an amazing time and for the first time in a really long time, I feel, relaxed, rested and renewed.. who knew that a little dinner, chit chat and game playing could renew you so well.
If I knew better, I would already be planning my next night out ..
Thanks Di!

tested...
Oh.. my oldest is really testing me..
she pushed me to the point where I was literally screaming at the top of my lungs and I realized that it wasn't getting me anywhere.. I stopped.. took a breathe and then called my DH.. like he can do anything about it.. seriously.. what was I thinking...
so.. we slowed down.. took a breathe and moved on..
decided to put it behind on and went on to have a great day.. together..
and tonight, we both agreed to work on listening more and yelling less..
both of us..
I love my daughter and I think I love bedtime most of all.. we talk about things, snuggle up in the comfort of her bed and just talk.. just us.. she drives me crazy, but I totally love her...
going to bed.. praying that she wakes up feeling better in the am...
if I knew better.. I would still be praying for the same thing..

a good cry
Today.. I am simply feeling overwhelmed & very under appreciated..
the house is so slow in going.. and it's getting to me.
I have been tired and can't seem to do anything at night..
the baby is cutting more teeth, recovering from an ear infection and wearing cranky pants today.. needs to be held and just desires my constant attention -- which she rightfullly deserves..
and then, just as she is about to slip into a peaceful morning nap.. a binky, the beloved little piece of rubber that makes her happiest ... any of the 26 that I have purchased.. are no where to be found.. NO WHERE... so.. I cried.. I lost it.. she cried too.. then laughed at me because I was crying..
amazing what a smile from a baby can do..
I still feel crummy.. but I feel better.. atleast for this moment..
we did find a binky and she is napping.. so it is getting better..
if I knew better.. oh, evil thoughts are filling my mind.. so I will resist the temptation to even write them down...

junie b.
if you have a child, particularly a girl around kindergarten or first grade -- like me, you should totally read the Junie B. Jones book series by Barbara Park. These books are great.. Junie B. is very sassy and very sweet. okay, maybe more of the sassy, but a totally enjoyable read..
my big one is 6 and we have read all but one of the first set of books.. we are reading it this week.. it will be done soon.. if we ever get to bed on time, she might be able to squeeze in 2 chapters instead of one, but the bedtime routine has gotten a little bit pokey here in this house..
none the less.. today, she played hooky from school and I dropped the baby off to the sitters and we went to see the play..Junie B. Jones - Personal Beeswax.. it's about the journal that Junie B. keeps.. it was cute musical.. she enjoyed it.. but I think that the show we saw a few months back with a friend and her same aged daughter was better.. it was a smaller local theater company.. theater in the round sorta thing.. much better than this, but thsi wasn't bad either.. the other was just better.. my dd really enjoyed the day, just us.. after the show we went and did some shopping and went to lunch.. just us. it's great to spend days like that together.. just us..
I was able to explain that we have these days "just for us" every now and then.. because I know how hard she is working to be patient with her baby sister.. she has to give up time with my or her dad so that we can take care of the baby.. and for once.. she got.. the lightbulb went off and she understood it. made me happy.. spending a day with just her was wonderful for us and our relationship. Things I hope to be able to continue to do.
so, for today.. I did something right.. makes me happy to think that..
if I knew better.. I would blow off all the work I SHOULD be doing and go to bed..
I will make lunches and bottles, but that is it.. going to bed...
night all..

monday, monday...
no secret that I like mondays.. they really make me feel like a new start is truly possible..
I especially like it when they fall on the start of a new month.. which is today, june 1 and a monday.. got so much more done today than I had expected too.. but it is still never enough.. big pile of junk always awaits..
the best thing to happen is that I finally have a kitchen/living room floor.. I live in a raised ranch. this space is massive and is a large bulk of the living space we live in. and since the water spill accident (still not ready to laugh -- details to follow on this) happened on april 1, and they pulled out the floors in the second week of april, and the baby started crawling and walking just about the same time. it's been fun.. oh.. so much fun.. either way.. I have a pretty new hardwood laminate floor. it's pretty too.. darker than the other floor, but really pretty and we are working to declutter the space.. the first thing to go.. the TV.. yes folks, beleive it or not, the tv in this space is GONE! it's a shock and is a massive adjustment.. but you know what.. we, as a family are spending more time with one another and less time with the tv on.. tongiht, I laidon my couch and read 2 chapters to my daughter in her Junie B. Jones book series while the baby unearthed 2 boxes of toys and a bucket of magnets.. we laughed, relaxed and just listened to music (i have my ipod set with with the dock station and speakers) and you know what.. it's amazing.. no hannah montana, no icarly, no spongebob... seriously, so nice..
another benefit to this, my oldest is watching much less tv. today, she chose to NOT watch tv or play on the computer and instead came upstairs and her & I colored while the baby took her afternoon cat nap.. so what that dinner making was delayed, I made some great time with my kids... totally worth it.
the basement is being worked on later this month.. working on packing it up a little each day.. cleaning and purging as I go.. it's going to be a very long and very tedious process, but one I am sure will thrill me to the bone when it is all done..
Since I did not get to this yesterday..
I am grateful for..
1. my family...
2. the baby is finally starting to feel better.. life with her was rough for a while there..
3. the new car -- still getting used to being a mini-van mama, but everyone else likes it.. so it works for me..
4. summer plans are slowly falling into place
5. I might actually have an illustrator for my children's book.
6. my ipod, who knew that such a tiny little tool could make me so very very happy
7. my husband.. he works so hard for us..
8. I get to be a stay home mom... I know how rare a blessing this is..
9. Farkle -- this game is very cool -- quick too, so I dont' waste a ton of time on facebook
10. my new creating keepsakes came in today..when I am done with some of the things I have to do.. I can snuggle up in my bed and get inspired...
if I knew better.. I would be doing the dishes.. but this pile of junk on the floor is so calling my name..

organizing..
I love to do this.. I love taking a big old pile of junk and turning into a mess that I can live with..
pretty containers, happy little homes.. it makes me giddy with excitement..
but why does it never ever last..
why does it make me happier to do it for others.. seriously.. if there was a market for it right now.. I would consider becoming a professional organizer... in this economy.. good luck!
If I knew better, I would be cleaning up my basement.. but I have limited time, so I am going to sneak in my shower BEFORE the baby wakes up from her morning nap.. okay.. might sneak in another load of laundry too..

maknig me happy today
what is making me happy today.. I bought the cutest little flower key covers for my keys.. they are so bright and cheery.. they just made me smile.. 3 buck I probably didn't need to spend, but for the happiness they brought me.. totally worth it.
If I knew better, I would be trying to make my keys less appealing, so the baby would want to eat them less.. but hey... they simply made me happy..

Sunday... May 17
my oldest dd knew that too.. even without looking at a calendar.. I have no idea how she manages to remember these things..but she does.. makes me smile.
It's been a really really long time since I blogged.. tons has happened..
Highlights --
baby girl started crawling in April and is ready to start walking..
big one loves school and really is developing her reading skills at an amazing rate.. seriously, she is reading well above her grade level.. she absorbs books and really is making great strides in discussing the plot, theme and characters.. obviously we don't talk about it with those words.. just about what is happening, happening next, etc.. we are still devouring the Junie B. Jones series of books, she LOVES them..
the house is still .. oh heck, I am still not ready to laugh about that yet.. so it will have to wait...
let's just say that the first wednesday in April was so awful, and it's a day that just keeps on giving and giving..
we are gearing up here for the end of school, hopefully a kindergarten graduation and then the arrival of the grandparents. my girls will be so thrilled.. followed only by the first birthday.. the big 1. I have begun getting ready, but still sooooo much to be done.. the monkey luau is going to be a blast.
it's cold and rainy here today.. so that means I will get lots of cleaning done -- dh just doesn't know that he is entertainment committee yet.... I will tell him later when I wake him up.. but don't feel too bad.. I am making him crepes for breakfast.. teh stuffed kind.. with savoury fillings.. his favorite..
okay.. off to play some Wii with the big one and then put the little one to bed for a nap...
will try to post again very soon..
If I knew better, I would be packing boxes down here, not sitting on the computer..

woo hoo
So, we have been working on teaching my older daughter about money.. she now has chores.. her choice mind you.. the 50 cents a day thing wasn't working.. so we developed a list, with her help and she has chores.. the main one is to make her bed and clean up her toys.. it's working.. oh and silverware.. she has to put away the silverware, which if you have ever had to "save" a chore for a child to do.. is more of a chore for you than it is them..
I digress.. either way, the kid makes 7 bucks a week.. 1 dollar for each day.. of that, 3 has to go into the bank and 3 goes into her piggy bank and the extra dollar goes towards helping to pay girl scout dues (6 bucks a month - I pay it, she thinks she does) either way.. it's about teaching her that you work for money and sometimes, working to SAVE money is important to.. so, next week, I think we will finally have 20 dollars to take to the real bank.. it's about saving and teaching her early.. someday, she will thank me.. either way.. all she sees and cares about is what is in her bank.. well, the toys r us catalog came in the sunday paper - as it always does.. and she saw that a much wanted ponyville house ( if you care.. http://www.hasbro.com/mylittlepony)
either way.. this house that we DON"T have (since we have 2 large rubber maid totes FULL of houses and about 38 ponies) she wanted it.. normally being 18.. it was 5. after school, we roll to the store to find out that Toys R us had dupped us.. the house in the flyer WAS NOT the house they had, instead, it was another house, one we did not have, but that she did not want (I fell on the floor when I heard that one.. something she DID NOT WANT?? ) either way, we went through the whole store and decided to wait and check things out at another store.. WOO HOO..
well, I did find something that I wanted for the baby.. who can resist a cute teeny tiny pair of pink mittens for like a buck? not me.. either way.. I pull out this ancient gift card. you know the type.. they give you 10 bucks on a gift card if you spend 75.. well.. I have been carrying this thing around in my wallet for years.. I swear.. I have almost thrown it out several times.. I am expecting hte girl to laugh at me and say ha.. it's expired lady.. but she didn't.. I nearly fell on the floor when she told me that I had 67 dollars and change left.. I made her check it twice.. heck. 3 times.. woo hoo.. it was like christmas.. or lottery ticket..
either way, I was able to pick up a gift card for a new baby and then I found out the winter clearance section was marked down even MORE than advertised.. and since baby girl is growing faster than her clothes can keep up with .. I bought her 3 or 4 new things.. for less the 17.00
seriously.. made my whole day..
If I knew better I would realize that this whole post is nothing but ramblings, but atleast I am blogging..

Don't Disturb This Groove" is a 1987 hit single by the US soul band The System. In April of that year, it hit #1 on the R&B singles charts, and later scored big on the Singles charts, peaking at #4 in July. The song was sampled in Dec 2003 on Victoria Beckham's Top 3 hit "This Groove" and remade by the Backstreet Boys and also covered by Mario.

I will however, take a few minutes and post a few things I am grateful for.. since it is Sunday..

4. my cleaning jag is starting to show in all parts of my house.. SO loving this.
5. friends.. I have great ones.. the sort that can't wait to take your picture of you sledding down a hill with your kids.. so they can laugh at you.. and later.. with you.. I am blessed.
6. a nice warm day.. it was great weather out there today.. made me hopeful for spring
7. I am reading again.. I am the world's slowest reader, but I am making use of the library and really reading books.. might finish 2 this month..
8. I have plans to scrapbook with friends this month.. I can't wait..
9. I am going out on Wednesday.. hanging out with the mom's club.. I am soooooo excited.
10.. I am making one of my new favorite recipes, chicken lasagna.. super easy and yummy.. don't think my family is as thrilled as me.. but I can't wait...

hang a sign up on the door...
There is a song with those lyrics (yes, i will look it up and post about it later), but for right now.. my posting time is limited.. the baby is playing in her gym and miranda is watching cartoons..
how come on a tuesday she is home you ask? same reason my husband is working from home again.. hang up the quarantine sign, we are all sick.. still..
started with dh last week, strep & apparently an ear infection.. thursday, the baby was sick with stomach virus and then strep, by saturday, miranda & I had it, but sunday night, miranda had an ear ache and strep. FUN FUN FUN..
the stomach thing is recycling today..
seriously, remind me when this is going to start getting fun..cuz I ain't there yet..

about to cry..
so last week baby girl went for her checkup.. a very healthy baby at 18 lbs and 27 inches.. um.. hello, she is 6 months old.. dr. is very happy with things.. his comment "she is just big, but proportionate" PHEW! she is a great baby, very happy, smiley and social.. also quite the flirt with men... too funny.. she is a great eater, decent sleeper and until recently loved playing along side me, no matter what I was doing..she loves her high chair and sits and plays with plastic spoons or whatever while I make dinner or do dishes.. she will lay on the floor with toys while dh sits on the couch and reads.. and loves to play and giggle too.. like tummy time, but protests rolling over.. she can do, just won't.. little stinker..
anyways.. my issue is this, she is currently in the bucket style car seat, you mommies out there know what I mean.. the type that you buckle them into and move them from house to car safely.. I personally LOVE this set up.. she doesn't need a coat or blankets.. we have a fleece lined nano bag.. basically it's a big ole sleeping bag with wind breaker outside, warm & cozy, and seat belt buckles are all underneath.. no issues with the baby.. plus, with this, she get BOTH of her hands to play... another reason I love this, is the snow & ice, I don't have to fear dropping her in this aweful new england weather.. I was seriously trying to convince my husband that I could make until march when all I would need is a light jacket and a blanket, and most of snow & ice would be gone.. but tonight, I was informed by some parents at gymnastics class that we are going to be giving it up a whole lot sooner.. I wanted to cry when I realized that they were right.. these car seats are only meant to be a appropraite for a baby up to 20 or at best 22 lbs.. if I am lucky, I will make it to the end of the month.... oh man.. I am so bummed out... it's not about losing the convience that this seat gives me, or the the fact that my baby needs a bigger car seat... oh it's just carrying her in the bad weather makes me SOOO nervous..
sigh.. sadly, I know better in this instance and know that the end is near with the pumpkin seat for baby girl.. I am soo soo sad..

1/11/09 gratitude
gratitude... Something I must start making a daily part of my life..but for now.. I am focusing on taking a few minutes once a week to make my list.. pathetic, but it's something..
1. target, seriously is there a better store on the planet, groceries, diapers, clothes, snacks, toys & scrapbooking stuff, doesn't get any better than that.
2. my scrapbooking supplies.. I have been whining all weekend about the messes I have made trying to organize my junk.. that should be issue number one.. I should be greatful that I have all that I do.
3. my baby girl - she is just a fantastic baby.. great sense of humor and wonder and gums down blueberry puffs with ease, even without teeth.
4. my big girl - she is testing me, and while it makes me crazy, it means that she is growing more and more into an independent person.. she is questioning life, just like I always taught her too.. she is going to do great things in this world. she is destined for it.. now if I could just get her to eat some fruit... I would be a happy girl.
5. snow -- while it is a giant pain in my behind, it does mean that we will have alot less bugs this summer.. which means we can all play outside a little bit more.
6. Kathy - my babysitter, she enables me to do things like clean my house, volunteer in kindergarten and spend some special time with my big girl -- who as of late, is feeling the pinches of jealousy.
7. the Wii - this thing has been great at getting us to be more physically active..
8. my husband for being supportive of my need for time to myself, time for a healthier lifestyle and making me put back the diet coke.. (while it is the nectar of the gods, I am trying to remove it from my life)
9. this blog - let me vent and realize that my life really is a good thing.
10. the chocolates that I bought at target this week.. they were on clearance, seriously, a bag of rich chocolate with mint centers.. ohhh man.. 32 cents.. they are yummy and satisfy the chocolate cravings..
okay.. silly list, but things I am truly grateful for..
if I knew Better I would off to clean the kitchen.. and tonight.. I do..

Junie B. Jones..
Have you ever read this series of books.. they are amazing and my daughter loves them..
in my house, dh and I take turns putting each of the kids to bed.. this way, they will be able to go to bed for both of us and not just one of us.. (someday, I will make it out again at night to play with my friends) but lately, I have been doing the big one.. we read a chapter of her books.. I usually get suckered into a second chapter.. happened again tonight, but who can leave the story with only one chapter left.. I can't.. seriously, I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.
who knew that a children's books would be so interesting..
all I truly know is that I love how much my daughter loves me reading them to her.. it's nice to be off picture books for a while and reading "big" girl books.. makes me smile.. and makes me a little sad too since, she isn't my baby anymore.. growing bigger by the day..
just grateful I can appreciate it for what it is.. wonderful time.. TOGETHER...

more to do..
Seriously, if I don't post this now. who knows if I will get the chance..
I have more to do today than I have hours to do it in. and to boot.. it's supposed to snow.. AGAIN! enough already..
feed girls, visit college friend, take photos (365 thing) get junk my sisters, grocery store, target or wal-mart if time allows, home, dishes, laundry, take down tree, play with girls on wii. do my hour of wii for myself, pay bills, the list just grows & grows..
if there is anyone out there reading this that can help me stop time and let me get everything done.. let me know.. I am thinking I would need about a week for everything.. but would settle for just an hour...
More later..
Monique
ps..if I knew better I would stop whining about what I have to do and JUST DO IT!

observances..
It was brought to my attention that I have not blogged since Dec. 3 (thanks Cheryl) I am so bad..
one of my new year resolves is to blog more.. perhaps daily.. this will allow me to keep up with my newest scrapbooking project.. it's called Project 365, basically, I take a photo a day and journal about it.. will this replace my scrapbooking, HECK NO.. my girls still need their albums, but this will allow me to keep up with the boring or uninteresting things that happen, and work on my photography skills... this blog will enable me to help with that.. I know that I check my email atleast once a day, this way, I will blog..
blogging helps me to get thoughts out of my head and on to paper.. I need to start doing that again, when thoughts stay in my head too long, they clutter it and the sock drawer (aka, my brain) gets full and I have trouble doing the things I really should or want to be doing.. so .. if you are a reader of my blog, hang on.. I am about to fill your head with useless knowledge of my everyday life. if you are looking for profound thoughts.. seriously, keep moving, they are likely to be far and few between.. but I promise lots of baby stories (as the littlest one is starting to do more and more everyday, but no poop stories... I promise) blogging also gets me writing again, which is a good thing too.. I MUST MUST MUST finish Miranda's story book this year.. because now i need to write one for the baby. who knows.. I might grow the balls that I need and seek publication.. it's a cute story.. I like it anyways.. which is probably why I am the only one who has read it yet... Courage, that is another thing that I want to work on for the following year..
My word for the year is together.. I will blog more on that tomorrow.. I am cherishing my active reflection on last years word of New.. last year really was a year of new and wonderful things.. a new baby, new experiences, new schools, new jobs, new adventures and a new outlook. I have notes on this subject somewhere in my brain..
right now.. my observance for the day .. BINKIES, or Pacifiers or Dummy.. what ever the heck you call them, it's a little piece of plastic that babies, especially mine.. LOVES.. my question is this.. why do we loose them.. seriously.. we have bought atleast 15 or so by now.. we just can't manage to hang on to them.. I know for sure that the purple one was left in stop and shop by miranda and the pink one was lost on a walk around the neighborhood.. the others.. in their bright green state just manage to disappear.. THANKFULLY, my daughter does not discriminate with the binky of her choice.. as long as the little piece of magic green material is there.. she slips into a state of euphoria.. one that can not be brought on by anything else... WHY.. I get the whole oral fixation thing.. really I do.. Reference Freud in google if you need more on this.. I get that whole natural process of suckling and being calming too.. what I don't get is how I lose these things... it's insane... oh well.. just my observation of the day...
If I knew better, I would making my dh breakfast and moving on, but I had to get those ideas of out my head.. seriously, the scrapbook page that comes is going to be hysterical.. just this week we bought another package of binkies and we not only lost those 2, but 1 of the 1's we had.. craziness..
Oh well.. Happy New Year..
ps.. for those intersted, the kit for Project 365 goes on sale in about 20 minutes.. I need 3 of them.. not all for me.. 2 for friends..
